With boho wedding style leading the way this summer, we’re taking a look this week at wedding cakes featuring one of our favourite boho design motifs – soft, floating feathers. For the free-spirited bride, Megan Joy Cake’s delicate feather-strewn boho wedding cake above makes a perfect choice. In fact, fondant feathers are one of the signature design motifs of Megan’s wedding cake collection across a range of wedding cake styles – from botanical, nature-inspired designs, to tribal looks and ethnic beading to glamorous floral wedding cakes. Victoria Watkin Jones takes the boho feathers theme to the max with an amazing angel wings wedding cake below with gold leaf garland. On the right, Reego Photography capture the essence of the theme “a bohemian day in the woods” in a beautiful styled shoot below (via One Fab Day). An elevated sugar flower composition adds a striking structural element to this soft, feathered design below by The White Cakery, with another of Megan Joy’s beautiful designs on the right blending fondant feathers with ethnic inspired beading to stunning effect. A gentle cascade of the delicate fondant feathers creates a soft and feminine silhouette for the boho bride below, with a heather spray at the base in a nod to the woodland setting from Cupcake Caramel (image by Love Jessica via Ruffled). A fabulously textured design in stunning pale gold is dusted with the softest of white feathers in a captivating cake creation by Olofson Design below. Laid-back cool is the essence of this design below from Megan Joy Cakes with softly frilled tiers, torn paper effects, tumbling florals and boho feathers. One of our stand-out Megan Joy designs is showcased below (left) with incredibly intricate beaded details meshed beautifully with boho feathers, torn paper effect fondant frills and accented with dusky pink florals. On the right, clever use of sprung wiring creates the effect of floating feathers surrounding this second beautiful design from Megan Joy. Fondant feathers are magically crafted into “angel flowers” by Lori Hutchinson of The Caketress in this pastel beauty inspired by a Marchesa gown and featuring fabulous winding, handpainted vines (image by Anthony P Manieri). A simple feather headband is all it takes to bring boho beauty to this pretty pale mint/duck egg bridesmaid gown (image via Diesel Boutique on Etsy) with a striking wedding cake creation on the right by The Caketress in this year’s coolest shade – pale blue – with an exquisite arrangement of wafer paper feathers. The perfect mash-up of bridal lace and boho feathers has been achieved in this stunning Megan Joy design below in the softest of blues for an exquisite summer wedding cake (image by Connie Whitlock Photography). Wedding cake tiers completely encircled with feathers creates a strking and unique design below from The Cake That Ate Paris. A tribal inspired arrangement of feathers brings ethnic beauty to the design below left by Nadya’s Cakes & Bakes, with an autumn inspired floral design by Megan Joy Cakes on the right including her signature fondant feather detailing on the bottom tier. White sequins and feathers add a glamorous yet subtle design element to the wedding cake below from Rachael Teufel of Intricate Icings for Craftsy. We close this week with a final design from Megan Joy in the most exquisite of palettes – a soft shade of duck egg/pale mint with pink and peach blooms textured with layers of gently ruffled fondant framed with boho feathers.
