Frosted Flowers & Winter blooms
Adding a touch of sparkle to your sugar flowers gives an unmistakable winter beauty to your wedding cake design. The Wild Orchid Baking Company’s pastel winter wedding cake showcases this beautifully (image by Mark Davidson Photography).
You can use a choice of products to add the frosted effect to your sugar flowers. Firstly, paint the tips of the petals with a light layer of edible glue. For a heavy frosted look, shake white coarse sugar/sanding sugar gently over the bloom. For a lighter, sparkly effect, use magic sparkles. You also can add a sprinkle of edible glitter mixed with your medium of choice to catch even more of the winter light for extra sparkle.
For a beautifully elegant side design, The Wild Orchid Baking Company have frosted the entire flower below – a stunning jewelled ponsettia – instead of just the tips for a fully iced effect.
An undercoating of silver metallic edible paint makes a fabulous base on which to apply edible glitter for added winter beauty. Silver-centred white orchids crown the majestic winter wedding cake design below by The White Cakery (a division of Connie Cupcake Luxury Cakes), framed with elegant frosted fronds for a touch of vintage splendour.
Scroll cutters can be used to create this edge design, or alternatively, scroll shapes can be piped with a large star nozzle and attached to the cake once dried.

The Winter Forest

The dramatically beautiful design below by Megan Joy Cakes mixes snow-covered pine cones, winter sloe berries and mistletoe amongst an array of white and ivory blooms, dressing the beautiful “peeling layers” textured tiers, with Megan’s siganture fondant feathers covering the bottom tier.
