Rustic style “naked cakes” have been a huge hit for weddings, but now it’s the “half-dressed wedding cake” that’s set to take center stage.<\/p>\n

Just a thin scraping of buttercream or frosting around the sides of the cake is all it takes to create this slightly more dressed up version of the earlier naked cake trend. It’s essentially the crumb coated version of a “naked cake”, with the skim of buttercream giving it the veneer of respectability being slightly less naked!<\/p>\n

Aside from being even trendier, the half-dressed wedding cake has the advantage of keeping fresher for longer with the buttercream crumb coat sealing in the freshness. A semi dressed cake therefore doesn’t run the same risk of the cake layers drying out whilst on display that a fully naked cake might otherwise have.<\/p>\n

Sweden’s Linda Lomelino<\/a> has created a perfect example (above right) of the half dressed wedding cake finished with fresh garden flowers for a super summery look. To the right, we have another rustic beauty – a coconut tres leches cake – by Beth Kirby.<\/a><\/p>\n

Style Sweet CA<\/a> have created a luxuriant rustic style red velvet cake below, with just a smattering of buttercream to crumb-coat the sides to dress up this stylish cake.<\/p>\n
