With lemon bridesmaid dresses a key trend for the 2014 wedding season, lemon wedding cakes are\u00a0set to be a popular request next year.\u00a0 While lemon-flavoured<\/em> cake has always been a popular\u00a0choice for spring and summer wedding cakes, lemon-coloured<\/em> icing will be the colour of choice for summer brides next year looking for a slightly less-traditional wedding cake.<\/p>\n

Although it’s not an obvious choice, lemon-tinted \u00a0icing also happens to be a great “backdrop” colour for many other palettes.\u00a0 Our feature cake above\u00a0from Cakes & Biscuits by Lisa <\/a>(Australia) showcases this perfectly with lemon icing complementing the pink floral decoration. A lemon-tinted icing would also work great with lilacs, soft blues and shades of green.\u00a0 UK brides need to be reassured that icing doesn’t always have to be white or ivory!\u00a0 Lemon icing makes perfect sense for a lemon-flavoured cake and you can still add flowers to match the bride’s\u00a0chosen colour scheme.<\/p>\n

The textured buttercream effect on the feature cake (top left) can be created using an patterned icing scraper available at all good cake decorating stores. Top London cake designer,\u00a0Peggy Porschen<\/a>, has of course been one of the first designers to spot the trend and has already featured a beautiful lemon wedding cake in buttercream for her “Patisserie” wedding collection this year (above left).\u00a0 It’s a fabulous cake decorated in\u00a0the classic\u00a0baroque style with sumptuous piped scroll work.<\/p>\n

Chicago’s\u00a0Cake Girls\u00a0<\/a>have also designed a very elegant lemon wedding cake with a chic centred sugar flower arrangement – perfect for a pretty summer wedding (above right).<\/p>\n

Above, we have two pretty lemon wedding cakes in subtle shades of yellow – a floral summer wedding cake by Cheryl Kleinman<\/a> (above left) and an elegant classical style lemon wedding cake from Bath Baby Cakes<\/a> UK (above right).<\/p>\n

Top Australian cake designers, Hello-Naomi<\/a> have chosen a pale lemon for their beautiful wedding cake design below, with an ever so delicate piped lace design at the bottom. So simple, and so pretty – the signature Hello Naomi style.<\/p>\n

Below, Bobbette & Belle<\/a>\u00a0 have designed a contemporary floral wedding cake with unique sugar flower arrangement (image below left, via WedLuxe).<\/a><\/p>\n
