Hot air balloon cakes are the birthday cake theme of the moment Stateside. Seeing a hot air balloon in the sky is a magical sight so a hot air balloon cake is guaranteed to make a beautiful centrepiece at a ny party and will definitely entrance the little ones. The cake (left) is by party planner supremo Kara Allen and features in her book Kara’s Party Ideas.
The next cake is a variation on the same design, with the colour pink beautifully incorporated. It’s by Sweet Things (Toront0) and also features a chevron pattern at the bottom of the cake which is so “in” in cake decorating at the moment. Wilton have included a chevron pattern in their recent collection of silicone moulds (it’s included in the “lace mould”.) Just ask at your local cake decorating store for details.
Jo Ranson of The Icing On the Cake has also created fabulous hot air balloon cake (below) for a 1st birthday party. To the right is a pastel perfect pale blue hot air balloon cake by Australia’s Blissfully Sweet Cakes.

From pastel perfection to more bold colours, Fat Cake Designs UK have created this beautiful brightly coloured hot air balloon cake (below left), a masterpiece for any children’s birthday party.
But if you want to keep things super-simple, Project Nursery feature this cute little hot air balloon cake below made with a mini Japanese lattern suspended in a mini cupcake with cocktail sticks. Genius! So no matter what time you have on your hands, you can get in on the hot-air balloon party theme.
