The Pantone colour forecast for this year has nominated “serenity” one of the top two colours of 2016 and here at Cake Geek Magazine we’re definitely in agreement.
Powder blue has long been a favourite of ours, imbuing a sense of tranquility like no other colour. “Rose quartz” was named the second colour of 2016 and while pinks have always been popular with summer brides, we think this is the year of powder blue for the prettiest summer weddings.
Zoe Clark of the The Cake Parlour shows us why with her elegantly piped lace and classic monogrammed design above left. Rachelle’s Cakes pair pale blue with a contemporary piped leaf design, above right.
Soft blue and ivory is a favourite palette of designer, Rosalind Miller with one of her classic piped wedding cake designs above dressed with falling blossoms and a recent design of Rosalind’s below featuring an intricate pearl lattice and flutterings of blue pearl centred hydrangea.
An old-fashioned rose motif adds a pretty vintage style finish to this beautiful pale blue wedding cake below from Bath Baby Cakes (image by John Barwood Photography).
Heavy lace detailing and large oversized roses add an adundance of old world elegance to Cotton & Crumbs lady-like design below.
Another of Rosalind Miller’s pale blue creations features below overlaid with lace applique and finished with an oversized satin bow and vintage brooch.
Whimsical pastels and opulent gold detailing are a design feature of the Roccoco period of the late 18th century and influence the two majestic pale blue wedding cake designs below by Peggy Porschen for Fortnum and Mason (image by Jonathan Pollock, below left) and by Zoe Clark Cakes, below right.
Blue damask stencilling adds unmistakable antique elegance to the wedding cake design below left (image via Pinterest, uncredited), while classic wedgewood blue creates an antique style statement below right by Peggy Porschen.
Faye Cahill’s pale blue lace wedding cake design below is given her trademark chic finish with a beautifully lustred shimmer that enhances the powder blue shade perfectly.

Periwinkle blue makes a beautiful variation on powder blue for the bride who wants to introduce tones of grey into her wedding cake design. Pair it with lace overlay and you’ve got a style statement wedding cake right there with designs by Madisons on Main (below left) and right, image by Stocks Young.
Trails of blue hydrangea peeping through tiers of ivory roses introduce hints of blue to the wonderfully vintage wedding cake below topped with a darling teacup cake topper brimming with blossoms in a design by Tiers and Tiaras Wedding Cakes, UK.
Dusky pink roses and peonies are the perfect floral finish to this wonderful pale blue vintage wedding cake adorned with garlands of vintage lace doilys (image via Pinterest, uncredited). On the right, poweder blue and lace is complemented with a beautiful bouquet of mixed sugar flowers in a contemporary design from The Cake That Ate Paris.
Trails of blue blossoms add a subtle and complementrary floral flourish to the intricately frilled design below by Maggie Austin below left via Style Unveiled (see ad panel at the end of this feature to learn how to create Maggie’s signature elevated sugar flower arrangements).
